Sunday, November 29, 2015: New Song Sunday – “Only King Forever”

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

This Sunday, LifePoint’s band will be introducing a new song. It’s called Only King Forever, performed by Elevation Worship based out of Charlotte, NC. You can listen to the song by watching the video below or download by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

Song Lyrics

Our God, a firm foundation
Our Rock, the only solid ground
As nations rise and fall
Kingdoms once strong now shaken
But we trust forever in Your name
The name of Jesus
We trust the name of Jesus

You are the only King forever
Almighty God, we lift You higher
You are the only King forever
Forevermore You are victorious

Unmatched in all Your wisdom
In love and justice You will reign
And every knee will bow
We bring our expectations
Our hope is anchored in Your name
The name of Jesus
We trust the name of Jesus

We lift our banner high
We lift the name of Jesus
From age to age You reign
Your Kingdom has no end

Song Theology

At LifePoint, we’re currently in a sermon series called Worship to Witness based on Isaiah 9:6-7 (quoted above). This passage highlights a vision of the coming King and His unshakable Kingdom. It was promised that a Son would be given by God to reign in justice, wisdom, and absolute authority. And Only King Forever allows us to sing the truth of that promise.

Throughout this Advent season, we must learn to see the manifold glory of Isaiah 9:6-7. Yes, let’s celebrate the Good News that the Lord Jesus came as a humble Child. But also, let’s not forget to look forward to when He comes again as a mighty King. We must learn to long daily for the reign of His Kingdom to be fully established. I believe this song will help us keep the full scope of Isaiah’s prophecy in perspective.
